Pet Blogger Challenge

So, I was looking around at pet blogs and one name in particular really caught my attention and I learned about the pet blogger challenge. I thought It’d be a good way for readers to know a little bit more about my blog.  And today’s post was born.

So onto the questions….(you can click the badge to the right for information if you are interested)

Well, most of you do not know that this blog didn’t actually start here. I had 4 whole posts on a blogspot site. I started it a couple months after Bella joined my home, but then I decided to get Daisy and a couple more months went by without me posting. The other site was really set up for one dog and in reading about blogging I thought the wordpress site might be better for me to use.

I originally started blogging because I was so happy to have a dog (not dogs) in my life. All I wanted to talk about was the girls…wait…all I still want to talk about it the girls!  I thought if I had a verbal outlet online I could find some people to read about them and I would talk about other interests in life.   My purpose is still very much the same. The only difference is I don’t fool myself into thinking it will stop the desire to talk about them in everyday life any less.  In fact, some of you very lucky people hear the stories I put on here then come back and read them all over again.

I don’t blog on a schedule. I really try for 2-3 posts a week.  I have to have something to write about or pictures to post and our lives just aren’t busy or exciting enough for a daily or even a scheduled blog.  Sometimes I feel a bit guilty when its around 4-5 days between posts. I want people to read about the girls and enjoy the stories just I like reading on other people’s blog. I see some people with so many followers!  I have two, one of them I know (Hi Grannie!). I know by my stats and those fabulous people who leave comments that others are coming by. I can understand not following a blog-I don’t follow blogs on follow buttons. I recently learned how to add the blogs I follow onto RSS feeds that go into my mail program.

I don’t generate money from my blog and wouldn’t have the slightest idea how. If anyone wants to let me in on the secret-by all means share away!

I like that with blogging I have a record of my life with my girls. I can look back and see what kind of fun, or what struggles we were having.  I like that it has opened me up to a community of other dog (and cat) obsessed people who don’t think I’m strange at for the type of life and relationship I cultivate with my girls.

A couple thing I don’t like is when life is boring and I’m not sure what to write about. I may only have a few regular folks stopping by but I want them to keep coming back!

I hope I will continue to gain an audience this coming year.  Hopefully next year Daisy and I will start agility so there will be even more to share. If I get enough followers/traffic I might even try my first give away in the second half of 2011.  Everyone likes free stuff, right?

  1. Good Morning Sunshines! 😀

Thank you so much for tellin me about the Clearwater park. I will check it out next time I'm up that way 🙂

On the 2 to 3 times posts per week. I pretty much do that frequency too. I can't keep up with those who post much more frequently and just hate to miss anything! 🙂

    Waggin at ya,
    Roo

  2. Yay for agility! You should definitely start. We need more addicts in the world.

I am glad you participated. It's been cool reading everyone's different perspectives on blogging.

  3. I have you listed in my "good blogs" list – certainly not exhaustive by any means. So, I follow your every post; I subscribe to a very few blogs, mostly those not on my list but I find interesting. Tracy, please put your followers in your sidebar; I can then join and you will have 3 at least – it will encourage others to join as well. The photo of Daisy a few entries back was AWESOME. @Kristine – I have too many dogs to formally pursue agility except the household kind but am an enthusiastic voyeur of those of you who do. I don't blog every day, either, Tracy – sometimes I'm on a roll – otherwise it may be a week in between. I have 3 blogs to write: Perspective on Pets for our online newspaper, Dog-Blessed and Silverwalking. Indeed, it is a challenge to have something interesting to say every day. Blog on, you are doing great.

  4. I enjoyed reading your answers from the Pet Blogger Challenge. Thanks for sharing more about your blog. I subscribed through WordPress!

  5. Enjoyed reading your post… glad you participated in the Challenge! PS – I have a Bella too. 🙂

  6. Thanks so much for participating in the challenge – I enjoyed learning about your blog. I completely agree with the RSS subscriptions. I use Google Reader to keep track of all the blog I follow because I hate having a cluttered email inbox. And yes – everyone LOVES free stuff. 🙂

  7. Hope you battle through the RSS and the follow problems! Glad to have found you though the challenge.

  8. Well of course we like free stuff! 😉

I think the agility angle is great – agility bloggers are a very enthusiastic bunch and sharing is de rigueur – which is good for getting your content seen. 🙂

  9. We started our blogs for much the same reason: love of talking about our dogs! How fabulous that there's a whole community of people to talk to and with about dogs?! Glad I found your blog through the Challenge!

  10. I too like looking back at progress that our rescues have made, and the hilarious destruction spawned by insatiable curiosity. So many times I click through to older videos and am grateful for the memories we preserved in a way that could never be so vivid in our own minds. It doesn't take long for things to evolve into entirely new scenarios, leaving old situations in the dust. I'm a chronicler, I guess, and I love finding others who enjoy doing the same. So nice to meet you!

  11. Good for you for getting started with agility! I look forward to reading how that goes 🙂

  12. Nice to meet you! Hope to check out more of your blog in the future. Thanks for joining the challenge.

  13. I completely understand your "boring-life" woes! They happen to me too and then I'm scrambling trying to think of what to write about! Thanks for letting me join in and read your blog!

  14. If you read many of the posts on the challenge, you'll find most of us struggle with the technical aspects of blogging. I found it helpful to read some books from the library–sometimes it's just too tedious to sit in front of the computer dong research.

BTW, I loved your Wordless Wednesday picture. I was told my dog Shadow was probably a hound mix and I see what that means looking at your picture. (She's the dog at the header of my blog).

I found it fascinating to experience a "hound nose" around the house. It was a whole different way of being a dog from the previous German Shepherd mixes I'd had in my life.

Glad you're taking the time to write.

  15. Hi there, how late am I? Only by 5 days :p

I love your dogs. I'm quite partial to hounds. Though I don't have any myself, I love the way they look and sound.

I know how you feel about followers. I have a few more than you, only because I forced some friends, 2 sisters and my husband to click on that button please! If I had a granny, I would have forced her too for sure. 2-3 posts a week seems like a pretty good number to me! I'm of the opinion that if there's nothing to write and it's no fun, don't do it. Go out for a walk with Bella and Daisy Mae instead 🙂

Hope you're having a happy weekend!
