Is it ok…

to laugh at your dog’s expense?

Daisy was not feeling well. She was having another bout of nausea and vomiting so we went into the vet’s office. They have this little Tabby in the waiting room that is up for adoption. Daisy was just walking by the cage, she didn’t sniff or look at the cat all but the cat hissed and spit at her.

You know the goats that faint? Yeah, that is what Daisy did! She fell right over on her side then struggled to get back up. The tech and I laughed sooooo hard! it had to been one of the funniest things ever! I mean, my dog is supposed to be a mighty huntress. A hissing furry animal is supposed to make her blood boil and here my dog is playing dead!! No wonder she didn’t make it as a hunting dog!! LOL

stinky, sandy girl!

Yesterday morning Bella and I went to the dog beach for a meetup group. She had a blast! She loves running through the water. i think she likes the smells too. She likes rolling in the sand. She smells so good with decaying sea grass and toxic waste all over her. (this beach is in a shipping lane, I would NOT swim there).

The funniest thing is when she is chasing other dogs around. many retriever and water loving dogs come to this park. So they go to run into the water, typically chasing a toy or ball and she runs after them. Until the water hits her chest. This is where crucial split second decisions must be made…swim, or run? She chooses run. She loves the water but doesn’t swim. She bunny hops back out of the water.

bunny hopping out of the water

Um, mom, you ok in there?

That was what Bella was asking this afternoon. For whatever reason my body decided to catch up on a months worth of sleep in one day. I fell asleep for 4 hours!  Bella came in to check on me and it woke me up.  How sweet!

I think tomorrow I’m going to buy Daisy a flexi leash.  Yes, she will be one of the horrible dogs people hate that run up and greet them or sniff them and runs up trying to greet their dogs whether their dogs like it or not. I will try and control that but maybe being far away from me will make her want to poop on a leash?  I don’t think its the proximity to me since she’ll poop off leash right next to me but I’m frustrated and tired!

Since Daisy doesn’t poop on lead and I don’t have a yard, we head to the dog park 7 days a week. I put her in doggie daycare a time or two a week and I think she poops there which does help things but Bella doesn’t poop there so she still needs to be walked when we get home.  She also doesn’t poop if their are squirrels to bay at, which of course they are everywhere! So our regular dog park had squirrels in 2 of the sections and an aggressive dog in the thurd. plus, Bella was freaking out over the thunder.  So, I loaded them up and took to them to a different dog park.

I did laugh when I watched the puggle go roll around in the mud near the watering stand at the dog park.  Then, once good and wet and dirty it went and rolled in the sand.  That was great!  LOL

Tomorrow morning Bella and I are going to the dog beach.  Daisy doesn’t like it, so she gets to stay home!

Hello to all my Saturday blog hoppers!

I have some great blogs I read, but for some reason I can not post to blogger/blogspot blogs. I tell it to put the comment with my wordpress account, enter the name.  So either my comments aren’t being approved, or I am not doing something right, or maybe it’s my computer.

A few of my favorite blogs:

Greyt Days
Hound Girl
The Teacher’s Pets

(not exactly) Wordless Wednesday

Wow the holiday was busy!  Hope everyone fared well. I also was busy doing all my chores for this week by this morning since they are working on a water main near my house.  Water might be contaminated and dirty until Friday.

Last night the girls had so much fun at the dog park!  Both of them chased balls over and over.  Bella was feeling a little frisky too.  For the first time my girls actual wrestled and played bitey face and play growled at each other!  It was so much fun to watch.  Bella really participated including instigating an ‘attack’ after a quick break.  I just love that she is learning to be a dog.  She is out of her crate so much now that I actually had trouble getting her into it yesterday morning. She had to be locked up so maintenance could come.

Tonight there was just thunderstorms and rain. yuck. I made a 5 minutes run to let Daisy pee and poop at the dog park then came right back home.  Have I told y’all Daisy won’t poop on leash?  Yep, I live in an apartment without a yard and my dog won’t use the bathroom on a leash.  It can be a slight issue at times.

I would also like to start trying some nosework with Daisy.  There isn’t any classes or teachers near me but I hope with her natural scent ability and some good treats she’ll get it down pretty well with just us.  Um, day one didn’t go to well. I would put the treat into the open box with her watching me, put it on the ground and call her over.  I might as well had a third eye with the way she looked at me.  Maybe tomorrow….

Now I leave you with a picture of my sweetness.

Two steps forward and one step back!

My sweet Bella.  My sweet Bella with anxiety.  Bella has been on Prozac for 3 full weeks.  Inside my place it is like I have a new dog. My parents were here this weekend and grannie was amazed at her favorite grandchild’s (yes, she has a favorite)  new attitude.  Bella has been what I call a crate dog.  She willingly has put herself in her crate (door open) for 22 hours a day. She has felt safe there, or safer than anywhere else she could find.  Well, now she is out and about and enjoying the living room.

Grandpa came over and she didn’t really run away. She didn’t hide in her crate either.  She did like to have the coffee table between them but then she’d relax and go sniff him to try to figure out what he’s about.  She took some cheese from him too. Cheese is pretty powerful in this house.  LOL

I will admit its kinda weird to now have two dogs laying about watching what I’m doing.  Plus, it’s easier to trip and stumble with two dogs underfoot, but it’s totally worth it to see Bella so relaxed in her own home.

Of course, with good comes bad!  An air conditioner turned on right as we walked by on our walk and Bella freaked and ran into me. As I was off balance she pulled out of her collar.  The last time she got scared and pulled her collar It took almost 2 hours to find her.  This time she darted about 15 feet, tail tucked then stopped to look around.  I got down and started calling her but she was frozen.  Then someone else’s air turned on in front of her so she came back and just puddled near me.  She was fine once I got the collar on and started walking again.  I was happy she just didn’t run away like last time.  Oh, and for those reading she does have a martingale collar.  She’s just extra slippery!

Now I leave you with some hunting pictures, courtesy of grandpa, from this weekend.  Daisy is really teaching Bella the  ins and outs of squirrel hunting.  Daisy just looks so happy and she gets so tired she can’t hold her tongue in anymore!

They.are.right.there!

...trying to figure it out

Happy girl!

We're on it mom!
