The Girls Gave Gifts Too!

The girls didn’t just get gifts this year. They actually planned ahead to get something very special for Grannie. Well, something both grandparents can enjoy, but really for Grannie.

In November we had a professional photographer come and take photos of the girls. If you have multiple dogs you understand how difficult it can be to get two (or more) dogs in a photo together, not blurry, with good lighting, ect…

I was worried about Bella but she did sooo good with two extra (female) strangers in the house!  The photographer was able to get some of the shots I just can’t get by myself. The girls together, Bella baying, Bella standing on her back legs, and Daisy playing with her toy.  Since this was a flirt pole toy she was able to photoshop out the rope in a lot of the pictures. So Grannie got a coffee table book and some single photos of the girls. I hope you enjoy some of these pictures too!  The new header is from this shoot as well! I’ll be sharing other later for sure!

A special thanks to Angela from Angela Hopper Photography and the Canvas Dog Studio for her work! (and she knows I’m blogging her pictures)

Small Business Saturday

So, I had never heard of small business Saturday before.  Is this something new we are trying this year because the economy is still…well, you know?  Anyway, this new shopping day is the perfect excuse for my topic (that I’ve actually been planning on writing for a couple of weeks).

So, I am here to recommend two small businesses to you.

First, I now have an independent pet supply retailer and I am in love!  Tails Spin just opened their second location and it’s near me! They sell higher end pet foods (you won’t find corn, soy or wheat here) including frozen premade raw.  They have self wash dog stations in the back so you don’t have to get your bathtub at home all dirty. They also have all sorts of treats, leashes, toys, and dog beds, ect. They love when you bring your pet in. They were even good when I took Bella to get a bath, She was nervous and overwhelmed and they didn’t force her to let them pet her or anything.  They also will match any large chain’s advertised sale prices and there is a 10% discount for buying canned food by the case (what small retailer does this).

Daisy, Grannie, and I went to their grand opening. They had a red carpet for the dogs to walk, lots of great deals, and the fire department showing off their big ladder truck (yes, welcome to small town America, lol)!

Who needs spots anyway?

The other small (and local for me) company I want to highlight is Fluff and Tuff dog toys. I discovered these toys quite by accident and I am sure glad I did! These toys have the softness and fluffiness Daisy loves but her Rocket the Raccoon has been kicking for 2+ months now! I think it’s a new record for a stuffed toy. Even the squeaker is hanging in there.  They *might* seem pricey to some but Daisy just can’t wear hers out. We have played tug with it even and it’s still all in one piece.  You can order them online or look at their ever-growing list of stores that sell the stuffies to see if you can find them nearby. This picture is from their website. I love how the toys look like pretty normal stuffies but are super tough!

I was not asked to review these companies and I received no compensation. I chose to write about them just because I think they are awesome! And that is my own opinion!

We made it!!!

Yes, we are here. New house, new town, new everything!

Daisy came in and made herself right at home in her new backyard. She didn’t mind the movers unloading stuff at all.  Bella tried to climb the fence. Luckily, Grannie was out back with them and stopped her from going over.  Bella seems to be settling down some but it is going to take some time with her.  Daisy acts like she has always lived here and completely satisfied with her new life.

Oh, and I found my camera today. So, as soon as I find the battery charger, I’ll start taking pictures. Here are a couple Grannie took on her phone of Daisy enjoying the new place.

This Yard is Awesome!!

Cant decide whether to nap inside or outside...

Saturday Morning Musings…

I  love to see my girls run.  Although both are coonhounds, they have distinct running styles.  Bella is a graceful gazelle.  She digs in, runs low, and fast.

Daisy on the other hand, clumbers along. It takes work to get her moving and her ears make running very dramatic. She runs like a car out of alignment and it is very entertaining to watch.

Sometimes though, when they are running around something clicks and they get into a great rhythm chasing each other.  Love the ears.

Thanks a bunch to Grandpa for taking these pics yesterday with his good camera. It is hard to get fast action shots with a point and shoot type camera.  He also got experience the wonder of The Cadillac of Dog Parks.

In his visit yesterday Bella actually came up to him to smell him and wagged her tail and let him pet her. I am very happy about that. Bella has a fear of men and I really would love for her to know Grandpa is no threat.

In more random news-when I was very, very young Grannie bought a bunch of pre-cut quilting squares. She never did anything with them, and now, over a decade later, I have inherited the fabric. I’m planning on making quilts for the girls to go in their crate. They have egg carton beds now. I wash the covers and febreeze the egg carton but I find they still stink a lot. Hopefully a quilt will be easier to clean. What do your dogs sleep on? Do they have a crate and any padding in the crate?

I also wanted to let everyone know I loved reading the blogs from the pet blogger challenge. I found some new blogs that are now in my RSS feed and I see some of you found me!  And now…I’m off to join the Blog Hop! I like the blog hop even though I never add the list to my blog. Copy and pasting the html code doesn’t work for me for some reason. But you can click the icon to the right to find out more.

Daisy has worms….

I guess it’s inevitable given our dog park frequency.  I was sooo excited yesterday becuase I took her outside for what I thought would be a pee break and she ended up pooping. Oh joyous day!  She actually pooped on a leash.  I had to go back home to get poop backs because I don’t carry them with Daisy. I was sooo happy and thinking my girl was growing up.

Well, I took them for a walk in the park and Daisy started having bloody diarrhea.  Poor girl. She acts fine-don’t tell her she’s sick cause she’s not going to believe you.

Went to the vet this morning and she has whipworms. They suggested switching from Heartguard to Interceptor. Right now, I have a lot of Heartguard left so we’ll stick with that for a bit.  I also worry about switching products. The only time I ever tried a different med with a dog it ended up with heartworms. I know I did what I was supposed to but it worries me that a drug I don’t trust or know might end up hurting the girls even if it prevents more types of worms.

Thanks Grannie for the eucalyptus and rosemary soap. The girls smell great and their coats are soft and shiny!
