A Product Review with Chewy.com and Orijen

I was very excited when Chewy.com wrote to ask if I would consider doing a product review for them.  I love their service. I order the food I can’t get locally from them, and if it is over forty-nine dollars it ships for free! They also have an autoship program that I keep intending to looking into setting up but going online to order each time is so easy that I just haven’t felt the need to do it. By not having autoship it also allows me to go and look at all the other pet related items they carry.

Luckily, I don’t have to look for a new treat this month because we were asked to try out Orijen’s new freeze-dried treats. We received a bag of the Brome Lake Duck flavor to try. IMG_3847First, a little about the company. Orijen strives to use fresh, regional ingredients in all their dog foods. They just don’t go out and order beef-they want to know what farm the beef comes from. Their foods are manufactured in Canada, and they only use ingredients that have been deemed fit for humans. This is much different from many pet food companies out there. The freeze drying processes combines pressure and below freezing temperatures to vaporize the water out of the food. Honestly, when you see it written out it sounds a bit like science fiction.

So, I hope you can see why I was excited to try these treats. First, I didn’t know Orijen was making freeze-dried treats! Second, with a company so committed to quality I feel really good about having the girls try them. Third, since I know Chewy.com carries them-I can have them delivered right to my door!

Girls!! STOP! We have work to do here!

These freeze-dried treats were a hit with all three girls! I mean, its pure duck meat and duck liver so I’m not sure it is possible for them to not like it. One thing I noticed right away are that these treats are soft and not chalky like many other freeze-dried treats we have tried. This makes them perfect to be able to be pinched in half. As you can see-they are just smaller than a quarter. IMG_3843They are only 7 calories a piece, so by breaking them in half they are the perfect training treat. They also have a strong smell. It isn’t a bad smell at all-just “meaty”. My current foster, Molly, has a bit of hand shyness. This was the perfect treat to be able to toss to her outside in the grass because it was easy for her to find using her nose. I had honestly had a bit of trouble finding a good treat to use outside with her because of this very issue and had limited much of our training to indoors or concrete. Even picky Bella (who refused to have a picture taken) loved this treat. The final thing that is GREAT about these treats is many come as single ingredient varieties. This is perfect if your dog has allergies and needs to limit certain foods or if you need treats during an elimination diet.

I’ll be honest-I ordered a couple more bags of these treats before I had even finished the sample Chewy.com provided to me. This treat is “the one” for us. Grain free for my Daisy with allergies, something my picky-eater Bella enjoyed, and something my foster dog can find in the grass if my toss to her is a bit off. I feel good knowing it is coming from such a great company as Orijen.

My First Product Review!! Chewy.com

So earlier this year I watched as blogs all over reviewed MrChewy.com. I had received an email but was on a blogging break due to my nerve injury. I felt left out and was disappointed to have to tell them I couldn’t do it.

Well, left out no more! So, who is Chewy.com? What do they offer, and most important, how was my experience using them?

So Chewy.com is not a new website. Many of you will know them as MrChewy.com but they have had a name change this year. I like that they’ve been around a while. I am sure many of us know someone who has been duped by some fly-by-night internet company.

Chewy.com offers wide variety of treats, foods, beds, and other pet supplies…delivered fast right to your door. In fact, they carry over 140 different brands. I decided to use my test run to help out dogs in need. My girls had enough food to last a while so I decided to buy food for a local organization that acts as a food pantry for animals in my community. I wanted to make it tough on Chewy.com so I placed my order on the Saturday before a big holiday week. I also bought big, bulky, dry dog food bags. Not that I was setting them up to fail…but I needed to know how they could perform under pressure. Well, to my surprise, I received an email on Sunday with my tracking number! I received my order on Tuesday. The offer quick shipping to the United States.

I could not be more happy with Chewy.com! They have free shipping on orders over 49 dollars everyday, even on huge 30 pound bags of dog food! Their prices on my girls’ brand beats most of the other pet supply websites out there. They also have a subscribe and save service. I haven’t tried it, but it sounds great. Automatic delivery of food on a schedule that you choose. No more last-minute trips when you forget you are running out of food!

There are couple things I don’t like about the set up of the website itself. I have found it can be a bit difficult to find “new” products by just browsing. Looking at dry dog food you can click “grain free” but the list that comes up is not the entire selection of grain free that they sell. So you miss out, or else you have to look through the hundreds of dog foods they do offer. Basically, they need better categorization and a more thorough organization of their products. However, if you know what you want and type it into the search bar-if they have it, it will find it. I like this for if I don’t want to browse and instead know exactly what I am there to buy.

Overall, I highly recommend Chewy.com for your pet supply and especially pet food needs. Great prices, and great service. If you haven’t tried them yet now is the time! If you use this code: TGPO1820 not only will you get 10 percent off your order(first time customers), ten dollars will be donated to charity (at the time of publication, Best Friends Animal Society).

However, no matter how great their service is….they can’t keep your coonhound from eating into the box. Thanks Daisy!

I was given a 50 dollar gift certificate in exchange for my honest opinion and review of Chewy.com. The opinions expressed are my own.
