More on the hunting….

So, since I really wanted to get a lot of pictures of the girls and I have two of them and one camera but only two hands- I decided the hunting session should go something like this: Start Bella on my waist leash which only has a 3 foot length while Daisy was on the 15 foot training lead. I thought I’d let Daisy get some of her energy out cause I know she’d be ‘crazy for cocoa puffs’ kind of crazy.

All would have been fine if Bella wasn’t a drama queen. I don’t know where she got that trait but it sure wasn’t me! Daisy was having a blast stalking and running after squirrels but Bella did not want to follow! She had her nose to the ground and refused to participate in the family outing. She sulked, she looked at me like I hit her when I didn’t go her way and a few times she just sunk down on the ground in a good toddler-esque temper tantrum. It was hard with Daisy going one way and Bella dragging her feet.

So, I switched their places. If Bella had her own blog it would have started something like “It took Mom forever to figure out that I am supposed to get the long leash and the freedom it offers…not that other hound that lives here…” As soon as she got the long leash she was so happy, sniffing and running around. The funny thing was Daisy was no less happy! She followed where ever we went, stayed untangled for the most part and just enjoyed whatever little bit she was offered. Of course, Daisy pulled a bit more in her excitement but with her leash around my waist it wasn’t so bad. The video from yesterday was made after the switch. You can see Daisy was just as happy as a lark (and how do we know that those larks are really happy anyway?).

Thanks a million to Grannie who is dogsitting while mom had to go out of town for the night!  Not that she minds….I think she secretly likes getting the coonhound lovin’ all to herself.  😀

The Girls are Doing Great….

Something else happened last weekend that I  *thought* i wrote about but apparently didn’t let y’all in on.

So, Daisy is squirrel obsessed. I believe her sun rises and sets in the activity levels of the squirrels outside.  So Grannie and I were taking the girls on a potty walk last weekend. A squirrel ran across our path very close to us.  Daisy and I were walking in front and she tried to chase it up the tree.  Well, Mr. Daredevil squirrel decided that instead of running up the tree he would run around it and in between Daidy and I and Grannie and Bella.  Well, as soon as that squirrel ran in front of Bella she reached right out and grabbed it!

That’s right, my sweet princess Bella caught a squirrel.  She didn’t bay or anything.

Daisy, as good as her intentions were started baying up the wrong tree.  meanwhile Bella had this look like “OMG! That was so nasty! Why does Daisy go crazy for these things?!!”  She was also moving her tongue like she had p-but butter in her mouth trying to get the fur out. I am so proud of my girl!

Daisy continues to be crazy for the squeaky toy. I’m gonna charge my camera and try to get a video of this nonsense for you.  It’s like the old cereal commercials “Crazy for Cocoa Puffs”.

It's a Happy Weekend….

when Grannie comes!

My girls love my mom.  Seriously, sometimes I think Bella actually likes her more than me.  Then again, she doesn’t even have to work for treats from Grannie. No sit, down or anything!  It’s ridiculous.

We bought some new medicated shampoo and conditioner for Daisy.  The shampoo has lidocaine, hydrocortisone and something else in it.  The conditioner has an antifungal plus lots of moisturizers.  I had given Daisy a bath on Thursday but on Friday all her skin on her back peeled off, along with a lot of her fur.

Daisy also got her first squeaky toy.  Its a little hedgehog with a Christmas hat. She is very happy to have that toy.  Even better, Bella isn’t so scared as she was when she first came to live with me.  In fact, a few times she was pretty curious about what was going on.

On Sunday we went to our normal dog park and met a bloodhound that was rescued from the same rescue as Daisy.  She was sooo cute and a year and a half old.  I loved that Daisy wasn’t the only dog with big floppy ears going every which a way when she was running around.

In other news:  When Daisy was found I knew she had a little girl puppy with her. That puppy was adopted and I’ve seen the update online and she seems very happy.  Well, the people who found her apparently decided to keep a little boy puppy that was with her. Now, they are moving and don’t want to take him with them.  Poor guy.  If anyone is looking for a great dog, I can at least vouch for his mother’s temperament. Coonhounds are very independent and think with their noses most of the time.  But, they love their owners and are very sweet dogs. Of course at 10 months he’s sure to have a lot of energy but his mom is pretty mellow at age three.  If anyone is interested or knows someone who is please consider this sweet guy: Her Little Boy

Wow busy weekend!

Ok, ok, I know it’s already Tuesday! We had a big weekend with Grannie and I was too tired to type!

So, Saturday morning we went to a meetup group at a doggie water park. When we first arrived I was a bit disappointed by how it looked because I thought it was kinda small for how expensive it was. Boy was I wrong!! This place was awesome if your dogs like the water! They had all sorts of fountains and sprayers and tunnels of water plus two wading pools.

Bell a had a blast! She ran through the water and played with dogs and even jumped through the wading pools a bit. Daisy on the other hand had fun, but did not like the water. There was plenty of room for her to hang around without getting wet. I got her to chase some tennis balls. She would run around the spray water instead of running in a straight line. A couple time the ball landed where water was spraying and she would try to get it but wouldn’t get wet. I was also trying to get her in the wading pool (like 1 foot deep) by tossing the tennis ball near the edge but she would keep her paws on dry land and lean into pool to get the ball. it was cute. I might not go there again unless a group of us goes because it’s kinda expensive for what you get. Bella likes the beach just as much and it’s free.

optical illusion, she isn't in the water!

I really want the ball!

Hi there!

Saturday evening we went to the dog park so the girls could run around and boy did they ever!!!  They ended up chasing each other, wrestling, and playing bitey face! I was so glad Grannie go to see them have that type of fun.  They both seem to enjoy it so I hope it happens more often.  It seems they both have to be in the right kind of playful mood at the same time.  Neither one overpowers the other too much.  Daisy does like to grab Bella’s throat but she doesn’t clamp down. Bella will give it right back to her though.

Bitey face!

I'll get your leg!

The girls were really sad to see Grannie go.  Now they expect 24/7 petting and attention like I don’t have work to do!!  She spoils them so much but of course they love every minute of it!
