Christmas with the Coonies!

This year with the girls was so much fun!  Grannie and Grandpa came bearing a TON of gifts! Now, They get excited just having company but when company comes in with bags and boxes (some of them smelling very good) it is all the more reason to get excited.

Our Tree

Daisy takes the approach of “try to open every present at the same time while wiggling your butt back and forth in excitement”. Bella is much more methodical, waiting to be presented with the gift that is hers then smelling it up and down very thoroughly before deciding if she likes it or not.

The thing is-Daisy is just as happy when you open your own present. She just wants to be a part of things.  The only human gift she tried to steal was Grannie’s praline scented candle (Pralines are a very popular candy here in Savannah). I guess it smelled so good she thought she’d try to eat it! One of her favorite things was a toy in Bella’s bag. A long green squeaking dog thing. If you are on our Facebook page-its the toy she was laying on in a recent picture.

Bella did so good this year! The noise of tearing paper and the camera and all the excitement didn’t bother her much at all. She stayed right in the mix the whole time. If you held out something for her to sniff, she’d very gently sniff all over then wag, wag her tail to share in your happiness.

One of the funniest things was towards the end of the morning. Daisy had been all wound up and excited. She eventually ended up near Grandpa asking for belly rubs-which he happily obliged. He stopped rubbing but she didn’t move-and about 30 second later her head is resting on his shoe and she is just snoring away!! Like a little kid who just collapsed from exhaustion after too much excitement.

*snore*

The girls came away with some serious swag. New collars, lots of treats, new toys, and a new sweater for Bella. They’ve already been enjoying a lot of it.  We hope your holidays were just as fun!

Yay! New flirt pole!

It’s been a while but we are back in the blog hop!  Good to see y’all again!

Times-They are a Changin'

Ah, the twist and turns of this thing called life.

Through a series of unfortunate events (which included multiple sewage backups in a new house) the girls and I will be staying with the Grandparents for a while.  Lets just say the last month hasn’t been fun…unless you were a coonie with a new backyard.

Yep, the coonies must trade in their backyard and all the freedom it provides. In return though, they get two more people to spoil them with petting and treat handouts. It’s a pretty good trade-off I think.  Daisy can take boat rides and go fishing.  Bella will get more loving then she will know what to do with.  Hopefully, she will be able to overcome her fear of Grandpa once and for all!

To keep me sane during all this (haha), I have decided to add another project to my to-do list.  I feel the need to announce it publicly so I don’t chicken out. I might chicken out anyway. I have registered Daisy with the AKC (canine partners).  I want to do a rally trial with her in July. So, I need to get busy I suppose!  I have a book on the way and plan to watch a lot of YouTube to make sure I understand the signs. I will be teaching her on my own. She has her basics down, but things like right finish and coming to the front aren’t skills her in repertoire–yet! Of course, this morning my HOUND had 2 perfect recalls under distraction so anything is possible…

The first happened when she was in the backyard. The kids next door had let their dog out and of course, since he is never allowed outside except to pee, he wanted to run over and meet Daisy and turned his ears off to the kids that were responsible for him.  The kid was coming over to drag the dog back to the house so I called Daisy (to make it easier for the kid) and she SPRINTED back to me!!  So glad I store the treats by the door-she got several for that!  And, about that time the wind blew the front door open!  I guess I didn’t lock it from getting the mail. Normally, Daisy is not typically a door bolter. But I think the door opening wide on its own was too much for her and out she sprinted.  Well, I made my voice really high, and play bowed and called her and in she sprinted back! I shut the door and ran out the back and she got the zoomies and we played together. Yep, my hound had recall!!  I wouldn’t bet on tomorrow though.

This morning, there were men working on the outside of the house. Bella did NOT like them at all. She just sat around, or paced around growling.  It was all nerves-the panting came later. Oh, and it’s been raining on and off today. She is not happy-she is hiding in the guest bedroom today and wishes to not be disturbed.

Change Again?!?!

Everyday Life

Day to day around here can get pretty boring. It makes it hard to write about something. It’s why I see no point in Twitter. Not enough exciting things happen around here to tell the world.  The girls are going together to stay at the Grandparents house this weekend. Daisy has never been there and has never stayed in a different house. I am trying to not worry. Daisy is a very good girl-but she is very curious about things and will not be hiding in her crate like Bella does when she visits them. She’ll be more like having an actual dog in the house as opposed to a piece of furniture.

It will be ok, I am sure.  Or, that is what I keep telling myself.

Happy New Year!!!

So, let me tell you about Christmas morning with the girls. The grandparents were here to deliver presents and Santa came for Bella and Daisy!

Daisy is like the little kid who wants to help open everyone’s presents. She was so interested in everything and wanted to smell it as you were opening it.  Her tail never stopped wagging, she was just so happy that we were happy and that she got to be included!  When it was her turn to open gifts she was sooo excited!  She dove into the tissue to find a new squeaky toy. I think her favorite new toy is her flirt pole. It has a squeaky squirrel on the end.

Bella was very interested in her boxes. She was also very nervous because grandpa was here and he was holding a camera.  But, she did well and laid and watched all the excitement. She rolled her eyes at Daisy’s exuberance (well, that is what I think I saw).  Once it was her turn she went right over to Grannie who was helping with the gifts. She likes smelling everything as it was opened.  Of course, Daisy wanted to help with Bella’s too.

Both of the girls love their new rhinestone collars and custom bandannas (with their names and everything!).  They both got food toys. Daisy loves hers and I’m helping Bella learn how to play with hers.  They ended their morning snacking on new bully sticks.

Santa came!!!

Pretty new collar!

This smells good!

Grannie! Open it faster! Hurry!

OMG!!!!! It squeaks! Get the paper off!!

Bella likes the squeaky too

Bully sticks for Christmas!

I think I'd rather shiver than wear this.

Victims of Christmas Spirit

This weekend the girls fell victim to the horror known as Christmas Spirit.  I decided I wanted some really nice pictures of the girls in some sort of Christmas gear.  It took 3 of us.  Grannie and I wrangled the girls, Grandpa took the pictures and the girls tried to be their normal selves.  Boy was that exhausting!  Bella hates the camera and is scared of Grandpa, and Daisy has no idea how to be still!  We did manage to capture some amazing pictures though.  Grandpa did a great job! I posted a link to a slide show since there are quite a few pictures.
